Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture master planned and designed a mixed-use tower that would be one of the most energy-efficient and sustainable in the world.

505 CST has 700,000 square feet of Class-A office space, a 200 key, 5-Star quality hotel, a world-class conference center with a 6,000 square foot ballroom, and underground parking for 1,000 cars.

The building’s form is sculpted in response to extensive environmental analysis, including maximizing solar exposure in Nashville’s warm climate. The city’s urban grid is not oriented to true north, so the building twists to better align with the sun.

505 CST also incorporates a double-skin façade with integrated photovoltaic panels, solar shading, an under-floor air distribution system, two Skygardens and cutting-edge building systems to produce one of the most technically advanced buildings of its kind.

“505 CST is designed to achieve a LEED Platinum rating from the U.S. Green Building Council, but also to meet the energy use intensity goals of the 2030 Challenge. This internationally-recognized challenge pushes architectural practices to design energy efficient buildings and move energy consumption toward zero fossil fuel usage by the year 2030.” — Adrian Smith, Principal, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture

“We were challenged to design a highly sustainable tower that not only accommodated the developer’s program, but would advance technology, positively influence civic life in Nashville, sustain the environment, and inspire! We achieved all of these goals with 505 CST, a building that we could not have designed anywhere else in the world.” — Gordon Gill, Principal, Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture
